Walk to the Dijk and stop by one of the fish shops for fresh eel or Hollandse Nieuwe (new herring). You won't eat it fresher anywhere in the Netherlands than here, straight from the harbor of Volendam. A true local experience.

Volendam has a rich musical history that locals are proud of. Ask about it in the village, and you'll always get a good story. In café De Noot, the true Volendammers gather, a lot more authentic than the crowded tourist terraces on the Dijk.
