In and around the Twente ribbon village of Vriezenveen unfolds a landscape that invites you to slow down. Here, you can stroll along old ribbon development, meadows, and quiet little roads where time seems to stand still. The village itself still breathes that cozy atmosphere of the past, with characteristic farms and a small-scale charm that immediately brings peace.
Just outside the village lies the unique raised bog area of Engbertsdijksvenen, where you can enjoy endless views, follow wooden boardwalks, and spot birds in all seasons that call this area their home. In the early morning, a mysterious mist often hangs over the bog, while in the summer, you are surrounded by silence and expansiveness.
The nature reserves of Wierdense Veld and Fayersheide are also within easy reach. These are places where heathlands, forest edges, and sandy paths alternate, and where you can walk or mountain bike endlessly without encountering anyone. In spring, the heather and young growth turn fresh green, while autumn transforms the landscape into warm shades of gold and red.
For those who enjoy discovering more, the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is highly recommended. The hilly nature makes every walk a bit more adventurous, with panoramic views as a reward. Here you can wander for hours, picnic on a quiet hilltop, or simply enjoy the space around you.
Culture and history can also be found in the immediate vicinity. In the Veenmuseum Vriezenveenseveld and the local historical museum, you can dive into the story of the region, where the past is still tangible through old tools, photographs, and stories from villagers.
Whether you come to walk, cycle, swim in natural waters, or simply to be together without rushing, this surroundings invite you to live the good life. In winter, the landscape is still and intimate, ideal for long walks and warm moments indoors.
