There is plenty to do in the surrounding area for young and old alike. De Heersteeg is an ideal starting point for exploring the enchanting Vechtdal. Thanks to its many different nature reserves, it is a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. Shifting sands, heathland, fens, and lakes alternate with endless panoramic views over green meadows and the soothing gurgle of the river De Vecht. Cycling and walking along rivers, castles, country houses, nature reserves, and cozy villages. Besides Nieuwleusen, Dalfsen, Hattem, Staphorst, Giethoorn, Meppel, and Ommen are definitely worth a visit. Or visit the beautiful Hanseatic cities of Zwolle, Kampen, and Deventer. We had a wonderful stay at the house. It was very clean and equipped with everything you need on vacation. Whenever we met Sabine and Freek, they were always friendly and helpful. Sabine was always available to answer questions and responded quickly. Our child especially loved that the animals were right outside the door. She immediately befriended them and was delighted to be allowed to feed them. She also really enjoyed the small playground in the garden. The house is a good starting point for activities such as Dinoland in Zwolle or a boat trip in Giethoorn. You should be prepared for flies and mosquitoes. But you can easily deal with that by keeping the windows and doors closed. Ventilation is provided. The nearby road can be heard as a constant noise. This did not bother us during the day and was not a problem at night. We can definitely recommend the house.

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und können die Unterkunft empfehlen. Wir wurden sehr freundlich begrüßt und bei Fragen und Wünschen unterstützt. Das Haus und der Garten sind sehr idyllisch. Ein toller Ort, um sich abseits des Alltags zu erholen.

Sabine’s home is so lovely. This was a welcome respite out in the countryside. Comfortable, peaceful, lots to do nearby, and very kind hosts. We stayed here as a home base while we went to Giethoorn and Elburg one day (each 30 min away from the home). My 3 year old adored going in the morning for eggs in the chicken coop, playing on the trampoline and playground, and petting the sheep and kitty. The hosts live on the property but the cottage is very private and we felt like we had our own space while still engaging with the hosts when we wanted (including my dad who spoke to them for hours one night). The kitchen had salt, pepper, oil, and all the basic cooking utensils. There was also a high chair and travel crib for us to use. I also want to mention that the property is gorgeous and extremely well taken care of. Everything was perfectly manicured. My oldest daughter didn’t want to leave so we may be back!

Hire a boat, canoe, pedalo, or SUP in Dalfsen or Zwolle from Hiawatha Actief. Or go boating in Giethoorn. Recreational lakes De Wijthmenerplas in Zwolle and De Zwarte Dennen in Staphorst offer coolness in summer. And if the weather is not so good, there are plenty of museums, indoor swimming pools, indoor playgrounds, and cozy restaurants where you can enjoy yourself.
