Or drive a little further to Trier, Germany's oldest city, full of Roman remains such as the Porta Nigra and the amphitheatre. Or go swimming in the nearby recreational lake at Bitburg. For something more adventurous, there are opportunities to canoe on the River Sauer or visit a tree-climbing park .
