At the foot of the Château ruins, located in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, lies an enchanting former monastery full of character. Behind the old gate, tranquillity and history immediately embrace you. Each room is air-conditioned and the vaulted room houses a pinball machine, table football between ancient walls. Outside, atmospheric terraces, a private pool and views of the village and Mont Ventoux await. Here past and contemporary comfort merge effortlessly.
Set among rolling hills and endless vineyards, the authentic village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, known for its magnificent wines, lies in the heart of Provence.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is all about enjoyment in a relaxed atmosphere. In the centre, walk through narrow streets lined with old stone houses and small shops selling local products. Wine cellars are everywhere, where you can taste the village's famous wines and learn more about the tradition that has survived here for centuries. From the ruins of the old papal castle you have a great view over the Rhone valley and the surrounding vineyards. The village square is the place to go for a coffee or a glass of wine on a cosy terrace, while the weekly market provides Provençal scents and colours.
The area exudes history, rich in stories. Walk or cycle through the vineyards that roll out like a carpet across the landscape and be greeted by vintners proudly carrying on their traditions. The routes wind along idyllic country lanes with vast vineyards and cypress trees. In summer, the markets of neighbouring villages like Courthézon and Sorgues colour full of life, with baskets full of figs, cheeses and olives. In winter, there is a different enchantment: mist hangs between the vines, and in the village pub the warm laughter of locals sharing a glass of red wine by the fireplace can be heard.
Within half an hour, you can reach some of Provence's most beautiful sites. In Avignon, once the seat of popes and poets, stroll over the famous Pont Saint-Bénézet and through the shady alleys of the old town. In Orange, the imposing Roman theatre brings history to life, while Vaison-la-Romaine welcomes you with its charming medieval quarter and colourful markets. And then there is the Pont du Gard, majestically above the river Gardon, a marvel of craftsmanship that has stood the test of time for two thousand years.
Whether you come for silence, or adventure, for sun-drenched days or mild winter light, this region bestows on its visitors a rare harmony of nature, culture and simplicity.
