Versatile Belgium!

Are you a nature or culture lover? Or do you prefer an active holiday in the green hills of the Ardennes? Would you rather experience culture in one of the historical cities in Belgium? Or would you like to stroll along the boulevard of the Belgian coast? You can' t choose? You don't have to. You can combine culture with beaches and cuisine with nature. Belgium is multifaceted and offers it all! You can tell that Belgium is a diverse country by the many languages spoken in the country. Flemish, German and French are well spoken here!

What characterizes Belgium?

Our number one feature is the varied landscape of Belgium. From the kilometers long sandy beaches with cozy boulevards to the rugged hilly landscape of the Ardennes. Besides, did you know that when there is enough snowfall, you can ski in the Ardennes? In Belgium you can enjoy every season. On a second place you can find the cultural heritage. Beautiful historical cities such as Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp make the culture lover's heart melt. Romantic alleys, beautiful old houses, shops and squares turn the cities into fairy tales. The Flanders fields museum in Ypres is one of the many places in the Westhoek that are reminiscent of the First World War. An important piece of Flemish history. On a good number three is the superb gastronomy. From real Belgian chocolate to mussels and chips. A Belgian pint of course is certainly part of the menu. Belgium is a true beer paradise with many breweries where they brew the tastiest special beers.

When you rent a holiday home, chalet or group house in Belgium, you get a real holiday feeling. From your own paradise in the middle of the green you can walk into the beautiful nature. Thanks to the fantastic cycling route network it is possible to make beautiful cycling trips through the Flemish landscape. Whether you stay in a group home with wellness, a modern studio on the Belgian coast, a chalet with fireplace in the Ardennes or a cozy flat in one of the beautiful cities of art. A holiday in Belgium is a unique experience!

The attractions of Belgium

Belgium is made up of Flanders and Wallonia. Flanders consists of five provinces. The most famous is West Flanders with its beautiful coastline and beautiful renovated Art Nouveau buildings. Here you can get a breath of fresh air on the beaches of Knokke, Blankenberge, de Haan, Nieuwpoort or de Panne. Other provinces are Limburg, Antwerp, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant.

Wallonia also consists of five provinces including Liège, Luxembourg, Namur, Hainaut and Walloon Brabant. The beloved region, the Ardennes, is located in Wallonia. Each region has its own showpieces.

Time for action & culture!

The words active and Ardennes are inextricably linked. Abseiling, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and survival are just a few of the many sporting activities the Ardennes has to offer. But also, cross-country skiing and even skiing in winter can be done in this versatile Belgium. In the warm summer you can take a refreshing walk through one of the many forests or through the beautiful nature reserve of the High Fens. Are you less sporty? As a cultural genius you will certainly find something to your liking here as well. A visit to Reinhardstein Castle, the caves of Han and Remouchamps is definitely something for you. In the art cities of Flanders, you will find even more cultural highlights. The beautiful white polder village of Lissewege and the medieval book town of Damme are special places that will surprise you.

In addition to the famous Oudenaarde, has several beautiful spots that you will come across during a cycling tour along the route of the Tour of Flanders. For the avid cyclist there are several beautiful cycling tours such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège , our Belgium expert Karin knows.

What is the best way to get to your destination in Belgium?

If you want to explore all the nice corners of Belgium, we advise you to travel by car. The road network of Belgium is sometimes a bit hectic but passable. By car you have more room for your luggage, and you can reach the booked holiday home directly.

You can also come by plane. There are several airports in Belgium. The most famous one is Brussels Airport, which used to be called Zaventem. But also, Liège and nearby Luxembourg have their airports.

Do you like to travel by train? That's a good thing, because it allows you to reach Belgium easily. The Nationale Maatschappij der Belgische Spoorwegen (SNCB) mainly takes care of the national train traffic here. Do you want to get there quickly? Then take the TGV. This fast train stops in Brussels, Namur and Liège.

At Villa for You we know all too well what good food is! That is why we have created a delicious Belgian menu for you. You can choose from a number of starters:

  • Tasty shrimp croquettes from Oostduinkerke, they are only caught here and are therefore also on the Unesco world heritage list.
  • Gentse Waterzooi, a kind of soup consisting of chicken, cream, potatoes and vegetables, served with bread.
  • Freshwater eel from the Scheldt region in a green herb sauce.

As main course you have the choice:

  • The well-known mussels with fries
  • Flemish stew prepared with special beer
  • Vol- au- Vent, a pastry with chicken, meatballs and mushrooms in a cream sauce or meatballs with cherries.

As a side dish, you can take chicory from the oven. Chicory rolls rolled in ham and cheese. We conclude of course with a delicious Brussels or Liège waffle.

With every dish you can enjoy a delicious regional beer. Are you on holiday in Belgium and do you like a beer? Then I can advise you to taste a nice special beer in places like Westmalle, Hoegaarden or Chimay. This is just a selection from the wide range of Belgian pride! The 7 most beautiful places and nicest activities in Belgium according to Villa for You

You no longer doubt that you want to go on holiday to Belgium. There is plenty to do here all year round. But which places and activities do we think you shouldn't miss? We put seven of them in a row for you:

  1. Belgium has a number of beautiful natural parks. There is one national park, the Hoge Kempen National Park, in Flanders. Through the nature reserve of the High Fens, the Voerstreek, the Vaalserberg and the fruit and flower region of Haspengouw you can take the most beautiful walks or cycle tours. The natural waterfall of Coo is definitely a must-see, as the river Amblève falls 15 meters deep here right into the center of the village of Coo.
  2. Brussels, not only the capital of Belgium but also of Europe. If you visit this medieval city, we can recommend the following sights: Manneken Pis, this world-famous little fellow has been peeing for almost 400 years, also the royal palace from 1826, the Atomium, which represents the 150 times enlarged atom of iron, built for the world exhibition of 1858 and of course the Grand Place. This pleasant square with terraces and shops is the centre of Brussels. As a souvenir, don't miss the Brussels side.
  3. Authentic and picturesque towns such as Durbuy, with its beautiful castle and old cobbled narrow streets. Bouillon with the medieval castle of Godfrey of Bouillon and Dinant with its impressive citadel. The Abbey in Stavelot also lets you enjoy the rich history of Belgium.
  4. Did you know that there are many caves in Belgium? Certainly, in the hilly Ardennes. The Hotton caves are the most child-friendly caves. The Han caves are the most famous. A visit to these caves starts with a ride on a historical tram. In the caves of Remouchamps you first leave on foot but later on you can also take a boat for a ride. And there are many more caves in Belgium that will impress you with their natural beauty.
  5. The spa town of Spa has its own thermal baths and is known for its spring water. When visiting these spas 800m2 of indoor and outdoor pools are at your disposal. There are numerous saunas, hammams and relaxation rooms where you can enjoy a relaxing light therapy. Spa is also known for its casino, good restaurant and of course the Formula 1 Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
  6. Belgium is known for its creativity with chocolate. The Belgian chocolates are known all over the world. Here they use the very best cocoa beans for their chocolate, and you can taste that! Are you also so fond of chocolate? Then a visit to the chocolate museum, Choco-Story, in Bruges is really something for you!
  7. Maybe a little less known, but Belgium has a beautiful winter wonderland! In the picturesque towns you will find an attractive Christmas market around Christmas and you can go cross-country skiing and skiing there! There are small ski areas in the Ardennes that are great for an afternoon of snow fun. The largest ski area is Baraque de Fraiture with 2 kilometers of blue slopes. It is not high, so make sure to check for snow beforehand!

In Belgium, children are more than welcome!

Belgium is by definition a child-friendly country. In the amusement parks of Plopsa de Panne, Plopsa Coo or Plopsa Indoor in Hasselt, you are guaranteed to have an amazing time with the whole family. Did you know that real water rats enjoy themselves best in Plopsaqua? This is the coolest water park in Belgium! Or how about the amusement parks Bobbejaanland, Bellewaerde and Walibi? These should certainly not be forgotten either. Let your children shine here!

Are your children real animal friends? Then a visit to one of the oldest animal parks in the world, located in the heart of Antwerp, is highly recommended. Antwerp Zoo is right next to the train station and is easily accessible by public transport. If you want to let your children know more about the underwater world, a visit to the Baudouin Seapark is an absolute must. In addition to the dolphinarium and sea animal park, there is also an amusement park, with attractions that are, of course, in the atmosphere of life in the sea.

Want to have a bite to eat with the children? Here you will find a wide choice of child-friendly restaurants. The wide beaches on the coast are clearly arranged. Your child has the space here to romp around or build a beautiful sandcastle. You'll have plenty of water fun here. And how cool is it to go on an outdoor adventure with your child in the Ardennes? In Limburg and Antwerp, you will find the most beautiful lakes and playgrounds. It's also great for a trip, isn't it?

Belgium's holiday homes are known for their luxury and comfort. This will make your children feel safe. Holiday homes with a rural location but also luxury villas with a swimming pool or wellness area in the Ardennes and a studio on the coast will make for an unforgettable family holiday! Let us know what your wishes are. We are happy to look along with you and give you personal advice.
