Styria, a part of Austria which is not yet discovered by mass tourism.

Would you like to experience a truly unique holiday in Austria? Then you are more than welcome in the green heart of Austria. We at Villa for You know that Styria is as green as it gets. A federal state where you can experience Austria at its purest form, and which has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. Styria is centrally located in Austria and the greenest province of the country. This versatile province is separated in the north and south by the rivers Mur and Mürz. The north is characterized by the impressive Alps with altitudes of 2,000 to 3,000 meters and crystal-clear mountain lakes. The south of Styria has a milder climate where you will find a beautiful hilly landscape with vineyards. The winters here are white, but the rest of the year Styria is green. In Styria you will find two worlds in one!

Does a holiday in Styria suit me?

All our guests are enthusiastic after returning from their holiday in Styria. We know for sure that Styria offers something for everyone and is therefore an ideal destination for almost any guest.

  • Culture; did you know that there are two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Styria?

1. The Semmering Railway, the oldest mountain railway in the world

2. The old town of Graz with the famous Eggenburg Castle

In addition, in the east of Styria you will find many inhabitants with traditional clothing from the region. Once again, this is a sign of the purity of Styria!

  •  Nature; soak up fresh air and new energy and let go of your daily thoughts for a while. Walk or cycle through the mountains, past glaciers, through dense forests and along babbling brooks. Pick grapes and walk with a winegrower between the vines. Make beautiful walks from sunrise to sunset, together with your loved ones and possibly your dog. Hike or cycle and discover the versatile nature of Styria. Are you dreaming of a quiet and relaxing holiday together with your dog? Styria is a place where your dog can run free, after which he will come back for cuddles while wagging his tail. A feeling of pure freedom. At Villa for You we have done our best to capture this feeling in our range of holiday homes. And that worked out quite well if I may say so myself. We are especially proud of the detached holiday homes that we can offer you as a guest,' says our Styrian expert Sybrand.
  • Relaxation; Immerse yourself in wholesome hot water. Enjoy the many spas and thermal baths in Styria. Allow yourself to be pampered by Styria's beauty secrets, which again consist purely of natural products. How about a delicious herbal package? Or an apple massage and a seed oil peel? Enjoy the riches that Mother Nature offers us!

Winter sports in snow-white Styria

The two largest ski areas in Styria are Ski Region Dachstein West and Schladming-Dachstein. The Dachstein-West ski region is a versatile ski region where experienced skiers as well as families with children are well catered for. You will especially find red slopes here. There is a modern lift system and snow cannons guarantee snow fun. The ski area Schladming- Dachstein is part of Ski Amadé with many possibilities. The area is very suitable for cross country skiers.

After an active day on the slopes, cross-country trails or hiking trails, you can enjoy genuine Styrian hospitality in one of the many mountain huts. Are you still full of energy after a delicious meal? Then brave the atmospherically lit slopes in the evening! Then tuck yourself tired and content under the thick wool of your own bed in your own holiday home. Feel free to ask us for advice on finding a holiday home to suit your needs! We would love to help you!

The accessibility of Styria

There are several ways to reach Styria. By plane, car or train. Tips on how to reach Austria in general can be found here.

From exquisite culinary delights to hearty meals

Styria is known for its delicious delicacies that you can not only taste but also experience! On the apple route in the south of Styria you will learn all about fruit cultivation and taste special dishes made from apple. Along various wine routes, around 2,000 winegrowers invite you to taste their fine wines. The Schlicher rosé wine and the pumpkin seed oil, also called the green gold, are typical products of the region. In addition to these exquisite delicacies, you will also find hearty food here. From the Almo mounain cattle to the wild boar. These hearty meals are often served with cabbage, turnips or beans. The meat from this region is soft and tender due to the herbs of the mountain pastures and the animal-friendly stables with straw beds. Whether it is a freshly caught fish or a noble wine, every foodie enjoys what grows or blossoms in the green heart of Austria," knows our Styria expert Sybrand.

Our top 5 experiences from culture to nature in Styria

Styria offers numerous possibilities for a day of fun. Here you will find historic castles, monasteries but also modern art and scenic splendour. Allow yourself to be inspired by our top 5 and discover Styria for yourself!

  1. The designer capital Graz, where you will find a mix of different eras from medieval, renaissance to Italian-style buildings as well as modern architecture. The symbol of Graz is the "Uhrturm am Schlossberg" a bell tower which, thanks to its location on the "Schlossberg", is visible in many parts of the city.
  2. The oldest Benedictine monastery in the province, called Admont, is located in the town of Gesäuse. Here you will find the largest monastic library in the world! Tip: combine this visit with a walk in the Gesäuse national park. Via the theme trails you will learn more about the nature in the park.
  3. Stübing, an open-air museum with around 100 reconstructed farms and outbuildings. Travel through time and learn about rural life in past and present.
  4. The Dachstein Glacier, the highest mountain in Styria at 2,700 metres. Do you have nerves of steel? Then walk over the suspension bridge or a floating staircase that looms up out of nowhere and enjoy a phenomenal view. In clear weather you can even look out over the glacier as far as Slovenia and the Czech Republic!
  5. The Green Sea near Tragöss. In spring and summer, the snow on the mountains around the lake begins to melt. The lake can be up to 12 meters deep. The park turns into a real underwater world, coloured green by grass and trees. While snorkelling you can see the footpaths and signposts. A unique experience not to be missed!

An adventure with the whole family in Styria

Milking the cows with the children at a local farmer in the morning, a big canoe or kayak trip on the rivers in the afternoon and in the evening barbecuing together in the garden of your own holiday home. And in winter? Then of course in the morning you start with a fierce snowball fight, in the afternoon you visit a spectacular glacier for skiing and in the evening, you eat a large plate of steaming pasta in a mountain hut. These are just a few examples of what a family holiday here in Styria can look like. Styria is a wonderful destination for an unforgettable holiday with your children!

What you certainly do not want to miss here?

  • 'Abenteuer Erzberg', this is not only a work location for miners but also an adventure for children. This is where ore has been mined for over 1,300 years and is the most modern mine in Europe. By means of live explosions, underground guided tours and a ride on the steep slopes, you get a good picture of today's mining industry.
  • On the Rittisberg in Ramsau there is an adventure park by the water. Here you will find fast descents on a roller coaster, a playground for the little ones and a climbing course. You can also play a game of golf and feel like Willem Tell at archery. Enough for a whole day of fun.
  • Is the sun high in the sky? Then take a refreshing dip in one of the many mountain lakes, natural swimming ponds or outdoor swimming pools. In winter you and your family can enjoy one of the many spas and thermal baths. There are also spas suitable for children.
  • Do you also love chocolate? Then come to the "Zotter Erlebniswelt". Here you will get a tour of the chocolate factory and you can see, smell and taste chocolate. They are true artists with chocolate here! Tip! This is also an ideal option on a rainy day. Chocolate makes up for a lot, according to us too, at Villa for You.

Styria is also a perfect region for a winter sports holiday with the whole family. The large ski areas have many extras, from children's lifts, ski schools to play areas and are very child-friendly. If you prefer peace and quiet, you will also find small ski areas in Styria that still radiate the original charm of Styria. Book a comfortable flat or an attractive chalet here with plenty of space near the slopes. Many of our holiday homes have heated ski storage facilities with ski boot heaters so that you can get back on the slopes with dry equipment every day. What a pleasure!
