Located in Salzburgland, Sankt Margarethen im Lungau is also known as the valley town and a hotspot for the top ski resort Katschberg. The small town offers several amenities for your daily needs and a fine selection of restaurants.
The famous Katschberg ski resort is THE ski area for a perfect skiing and winter holiday! Situated directly between the states of Salzburg and Carinthia, it offers 80 kilometres of slopes for both relaxed and sporty skiing and snowboarding, along with 17 modern lifts and snow safety thanks to its altitude of 1,170-2,220 m. With the neighbouring Grosseck-Speiereck ski area, the small, family-friendly ski area of Fanningberg, and the well-known Obertauern ski area, there are approximately 250 kilometres of slopes accessible throughout the entire ski area.
Located between the local mountains of Aineck and Trainwald, Sankt Margarethen im Lungau is also an ideal starting point for numerous summer activities in the Salzburg Lungau region. There are around 60 mountain lakes, such as the Prebersee or the Schlierensee., The Lungau/Katschberg golf club is close to the town centre and the idyllic swimming lake in Sankt Margarethen im Lungau. The public swimming pools in Sankt Michael im Lungau, Mauterndorf, Mariapfarr, and the BadeInsel in Tamsweg provide the necessary cooling down during hot summer days! You can also reach the well-known Carinthian lakes Millstätter See, Afritzer See and Weissensee within 30-45 minutes' drive by car. In the holiday region of Lungau in Salzburg, there are also several small ski areas with drag lifts. These are located in Lessach, Schönfeld, St. Michael-Petersbründl, home to a FIS Slalom World Cup slope and/or racing and training slopes, and in the municipality of Zederhaus. These are perfect for beginners and families with small children, offering short runs - the ideal slopes, therefore, for all ski beginners!
