Vaucluse is also easily accessible by plane or train. The nearest airport is in Marrignane near Marseille and the TGV stations are in Avignon and Aix-en-Provence.
The culinary cuisine of Vaucluse
If you like good food, or if you like to enjoy a glass of rosé on a terrace, then Vaucluse is the place to be. In Vaucluse, people love good food and there is no lack of dishes and regional specialties. Bread, wine and olives are used as basic ingredients.
There is never a shortage of fruit and vegetables at the numerous markets. The locals do their shopping here and have a chat with each other.
Did you know that the Vaucluse is the main supplier of truffles? The most famous recipe is the delicious truffle omelets. Strawberries, melons, peaches, pears and apricots are waiting to be eaten in the shops and markets. You will hardly find this fresh and juicy fruit anywhere. Our favorite villages and cities that we can warmly recommend for a visit are;
- Avignon, this ancient city, also called the Rome of France, is known for its Gothic building Palais de Papes and the 12th century bridge Pont d'Avignon. Yes, this is it! The famous bridge from the song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon".
- Isle-sur-la Sorgues, also called the Venice of Provence. On Sundays, you can visit the famous antique market here. You will be enchanted by the flower-lined canal and bridges, with a succession of antique shops and terraces.
- Gordes, a beautifully situated village in the heart of Luberon. The castle, the cobbled alleyways, the pretty, shady square and the panoramic views over the colorful countryside are a real delight here.
- Fontaine de Vaucluse, with the mouth of an underground river network. A source that springs from an impressive rock formation. The depth of the source is still unknown. Even the famous explorer Jacques Cousteau was unable to find out.
- Roussillon, a picturesque village in ochre color. This village is surrounded by beautiful rocks and mountains of ochre.
- Vaison la Romaine, known for the many Roman remains in the old town.
