Discover Vaucluse, the heart of the Provence region

Are you opting for a holiday in Vaucluse? If so, it is certainly a good choice! You will be amazed by the varied landscape and the beautiful old villages. There is a reason why many writers came here to share their experiences with the world. The well-known English writer Peter Mayle, for example, gained a lot of fame with his books 'A Year in Provence' and 'Toujours Provence'. His book was eventually filmed and is set in the various picturesque villages in the hilly landscape of the Luberon.

Every year, many tourists visit this colorful region to experience Provençal life up close. One of the most popular excursions is a beautiful wine route. With your own car or a rented Citroën, one of those authentic 'ugly' ducks, you drive along the famous wine domains such as Gigondas, Vacqueras, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or Rasteaux. Here, you are invited to take a look at the wine cellars and taste various wines.

But there is much more to experience in the Vaucluse! Are you the Burgundian type? Do you like an active holiday? Or do you want to get to know the history of Vaucluse? You can do this in the Vaucluse region too!

The culinary cuisine of Vaucluse

If you like good food, or if you like to enjoy a glass of rosé on a terrace, then Vaucluse is the place to be. In Vaucluse, people love good food and there is no lack of dishes and regional specialties. Bread, wine and olives are used as basic ingredients.

There is never a shortage of fruit and vegetables at the numerous markets. The locals do their shopping here and have a chat with each other.

Did you know that the Vaucluse is the main supplier of truffles? The most famous recipe is the delicious truffle omelets. Strawberries, melons, peaches, pears and apricots are waiting to be eaten in the shops and markets. You will hardly find this fresh and juicy fruit anywhere. Together with garlic and olive oil, herbs are a popular ingredient in Provencal cuisine. In the wild or at the markets, the herbs spread their delicious scents.

And what should not be missing in the kitchen are the finest olive oils, the various tapenades, Provencal herbs, honey and of course a bottle of fine wine. Start a delicious meal here with a glass of Pastis as an aperitif. A delicious liqueur based on star anise, liquorice and herbal extracts.
