The rich palette of the Provence-Alpes-Côte

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is a beautiful and versatile region in the south-east of France. It consists of the Alpes de Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse departments.

Seen from the south, you start at the most beautiful beaches at the Mediterranean Sea, via the purple lavender fields and picturesque mountain villages you continue north to the French Alps. A mountain world full of green meadows, crystal clear mountain lakes, rugged mountain ridges and the most beautiful hiking trails. An ideal destination for both a summer and winter holiday!

Are you a bit sporty? Then you can use your energy in many different ways here! There are almost as many ski resorts as golf courses. In the north, you will find the popular winter sports resorts such as Isola 2000, Pra Loup and Val d'Allos. In the summer, you will find golf courses such as Golf deTerre Blanche, Golf de Biot, Golf de L'Esterel and Golf de Beauvallon. For cyclists, the Mont Ventoux in Vaucluse is the mountain to climb. And after all these efforts, how wonderful is it to be able to cool down in your private swimming pool while the other travel companions are preparing the evening meal? A meal prepared with the best local products and of course a good glass of Côte du Rhône!

Villa for You offers detached villas with private swimming pools near the most beautiful golf courses, the most varied cycling routes and the finest beaches. Or would you prefer a romantic village house in the most picturesque village of this region? A lovely spot between the vineyards? Or a flat on a cosy holiday park with swimming pool? Because we have that covered too! In this region, the historical cities such as Marseille, Nice, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence are never far away and certainly worth a visit!

Picturesque villages and fashionable seaside resorts

On the coast of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, you will find well-known seaside resorts such as Nice, Cannes, Fréjus, Sainte-Maxime, Saint-Tropez and Cassis. Here, you will also find the most beautiful beaches and bays and many cosy boulevards and terraces. Inland, or in the hinterland of the fashionable seaside resorts, there are picturesque villages with many historical sights. Nature is beautiful here. With lots of greenery, vineyards, crystal-clear bathing lakes and always that wonderful French sunshine. We don't need to tell you anything more about the scents and colours of this area. The azure blue sea, green parasol trees and the sound of crickets immediately give you that wonderful holiday feeling.

The road to the sunny south

Via the Route du Soleil you can reach the Vaucluse after a 1100 km drive. You can explore this beautiful region from your holiday home and visit L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgues, a paradise for brocante lovers, and the Pope's palace in Avignon. If you drive another hour you will arrive in the Bouche-du-Rhône. There, you must admire the light that Vincent van Gogh fell in love with. Visit his city Arles and the village of Saint-Remy-de-Provence. Another two hours' drive and you are in the Var, the greenest department of southern France with the famous seaside resort of Saint-Tropez. Finally, head in the direction of the Alpes-Maritimes with the famous cities such as the perfume city of Grasse, the famous Cannes and the beautiful Nice.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur can also be easily reached by plane. You land at the airports of Marseille, Hyères-Toulon or Nice. The train takes you to Avignon, Saint-Raphael, Les Arcs and Nice, among others. And don't forget to bring your bicycle. Follow the routes of the Tour de France and ride in the Alps like a professional!

Bon apétit et santé!

About that glass of Côte du Rhône. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is perhaps less well-known as a wine region than Burgundy and Bordeaux, but the popes must have had some influence. Their famous wine Châteaux-neuf-du Pape really comes from this region! Or what about the delicious, sweet dessert wine Baumes-de-Venise? This comes from the cute village of the same name at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range. Delicious with a dessert or just with those sweet almond biscuits from Aix-en-Provence called Calissons. The best rosé in the world is also sold in this region! In fact, rosé is always a good match for all Provençal ingredients, which you can of course buy at the market. At the market, get olives, delicious cheeses, rosemary, thyme and tomatoes and prepare a delicious meal in the kitchen or on the barbecue! Have a lovely evening eating and drinking at the side of your private swimming pool at your holiday villa with your loved ones around you. That's what they call living like God in France!

How to enjoy yourself in the Alpes-Provence-Côte d'Azur?

The Alpes-Provence-Côte-d'Azur region is so diverse that the most diverse activities are possible. From rafting in the Gorges de Verdon to skiing in Isola 2000. From scoring antique curiosities on brocante markets to admiring art in museums. From clambering in tree-climbing parks to spending long days on the beach. And let's not forget the beautiful golf courses with sea view. It is all possible here!

Make the best holiday plans with your family or friends at the side of your private pool.

Need more inspiration? Here are some tips from us for an unforgettable day out;

  • Visit the big Provencal market in the cosy Lorgues on Tuesday and sniff the delicious scents of herbs and lavender.
  • To cool down, admire the light shows in the Carrières de Lumieres caves near Les Baux de Provence
  • Are you a daredevil? Then go rafting in the Gorges de Verdon! Do you prefer things a bit quieter? Hire a pedalo and explore the swimming lake Lac de Ste Croix!
  • Enjoy the serenity of the abbeys of Le Thoronet or the abbey of Sénanque known for its surrounding lavender fields near the historic village of Gordes.
  • Take a canoe trip on the river Argens at Entrecasteaux.
  • Visit a wine estate such as the Commanderie de Peyrassol near Flassans-sur-Issole. Admire the most beautiful works of art in the garden and plan some time for a delicious lunch in the restaurant!
  • Admire the beautiful architecture of the MUCEM museum in Marseille and enjoy a bouillabaisse in the vieux port, the old port.
  • After Marseille, drive on to Cassis and in the afternoon take a boat trip along the Calanques, white majestic cliffs. And why not taste the local speciality here too? Because here, sea urchin is on the menu.

Plenty to do for children!

There is so much to do for children in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur that after two weeks of holiday, they still do not want to go home! Building sandcastles on the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea, pedal boats on the swimming lakes, canoeing on the rivers, exploring caves, skiing and visiting amusement parks. Or how about splashing around in the private pool of your holiday villa? Romping around in the large garden or going down the slide with holiday friends in the large swimming pool on the holiday park. Everything is possible!

We have put some great tips on the list!

  • Climbing and clambering at the tree climbing park L'Arnaude Aventure near Lorgues
  • Hire a pedal boat or electric boat on Lac de Cassien
  • Make your own perfume in Grasse!
  • A super fun and very big amusement park near Hyéres is Kiddyparc! And get on the boat the next day to explore the islands off the coast of Hyères.
  • Picnic in the water park of Vidauban with drop-in water jump! Lots of room to play and suitable for small and big children.
  • Nice tree climbing park at Rustrel Colorado Aventures and good to combine with a walk through the wild west of France with beautiful red ochre quarries and a lunch in Roussillon.

‘There is plenty to do in this versatile region, but don't forget to plan some days in your own holiday home to enjoy the French sun in your own garden, the view, the peace and quiet, the swimming pool and just the time with your family and/or friends! Because we know now more than ever that making beautiful memories with your loved one is the most important thing there is'. Says our Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur expert, Brigitte.
