Holiday fun in Tyrol

If you go on holiday in Tyrol, you will be enchanted by a beautiful view of the mountains around you. We, at Villa for You, know this as we were lucky enough to experience this ourselves. It is not without reason that Tyrol is one of the most popular provinces of Austria. Every year many winter sports enthusiasts visit Tyrol for skiing or snowboarding. Tyrol has many ski areas that are connected to each other. As a result, the ski areas become larger, offer more possibilities, but are still of the highest quality. A lot is invested in ski lifts, snow cannons and restaurants. Are you an absolute lover of good food? Then you will definitely enjoy Tyrolean delicacies. The hospitable locals will serve you delicious local dishes with pleasure.

Tyrol offers you a wide range of different types of accommodation. From a spacious, modern and cosy apartment in the centre of Kirchberg, to a detached holiday home with an enclosed garden in the countryside. Ideal for your four-legged friend or small children. Do you know the Hahnenkamm-Race? This is an annual ski event in January and is the highlight of the World Cup races. The specially constructed, very steep slope in Kitzbühel is the ultimate challenge for every skier at world level. As a winter sports fanatic you must have experienced this at least once. Are you getting excited? Then book a luxury holiday home in fashionable Kitzbühel. Both in summer and winter there is a lot to do here.

Tyrol consists of two parts: Tyrol and East Tyrol. These are just as inextricably linked to each other as a leather hose with a large pulp of beer. The Großglockner and Großvenediger are Austria's highest mountains. Both are located in East Tyrol but accessible from Salzburgerland. This makes that East Tyrol is also known as 'the roof of Austria'.

The winter sportsperson is certainly at the right place in Tyrol!

Here you will find more than 80 different ski areas and numerous slopes. Both beginners and advanced winter sports enthusiasts will find what they are looking for here. Tyrol is known for its eternal snow and glaciers. The famous Hintertuxer Glacier is one of Europe's largest glaciers, where you can ski all year round. How special is it when you can brave the snow-white slopes here in the middle of summer? After skiing, simply put your flip-flops back on and enjoy a delicious refreshment on one of the cosy café terraces. If winter sports enthusiasts ask me where to go for a good party after a day's skiing, it is not a difficult question to answer. As far as I am concerned, Tyrol has the best après-ski places. In ski villages like Kirchberg in Tyrol, Kitzbühel, Gerlos, Mayrhofen, Westendorf and Sölden you will find many atmospheric bars. I would say, dive into a bar after skiing, sing your heart out and return to your holiday home feeling tired but satisfied. Stay with your family or friends in a comfortable group house near the slopes, that's the best experience' says our Tyrolean expert Pepijn.

Popular ski areas in Tyrol are;

These ski areas are child-friendly, but couples and groups of friends can also enjoy themselves here.

In short, you will not find a region in Europe with as many winter sports villages as Tirol. In winter, the mountains here are fantastic for all kinds of winter sports!

There are several roads leading to Tyrol

Tyrol is easily accessible in various ways. Many tourists visit Tyrol by car and that is also the most convenient option. By plane or train is also possible. Tips on how to reach Austria generally can be found here.

Taste the Tyrolean Gröstl!

If you are visiting Tyrol, it is inevitable that you will enjoy the traditional farmhouse cuisine. This is characterized by high quality wines and aromatic bacon. The most famous regional dish is the Tyrolean Gröstl. A simple dish with baked potatoes, bacon and a fried egg. This used to be made from fried leftovers for the catering staff. This very hearty lunch is often served in a frying pan in a mountain restaurant. A typical meal after which you can go enjoy the mountains full of energy. Tyrolean speckknödel or Tyrolean farmhouse bread are also classics of Tyrolean cuisine. Additionally, there are some special dishes that you can attribute to different regions, such as the Zillertaler Krapfen. These are delicious pastry pillows filled with potato and cheese. A real speciality of the Zillertal. For the sweet tooth, Apfelradln in a dough jacket is certainly recommended. These fried apple rings are often sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and served with "Preiselbeeren" or red berries.

What to do in Tyrol?

Tyrol is perhaps Austria's most famous region and is a versatile holiday region. You can experience both culture and nature all year round. We can give you many reasons why a stay in Tyrol is worthwhile. Our enthusiastic team will be happy to tell you about all the excursions that are possible in Tyrol.

Our top 9 daytrips are;

  • Drink a cold beer on the square in front of the golden roof. This showpiece with 2,657 copper gilded roof tiles was built by Maximilian I. Stroll along the river Inn or visit a theatre performance in the university town of Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol.
  • Stroll through the picturesque alleyways in the medieval town of Rattenberg with its many glassworks. We recommend shopping for souvenirs here.
  • Admire the stately establishment, Kufstein Fortress, in Kufstein
  • Visit the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens and be surprised by the sparkling surroundings.

Do you like action more?

  • Take a dip in one of Tyrol's crystal-clear lakes. The Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake, offers plenty of water fun.
  • Karwendel Nature Park is Austria's largest nature park. It is characterised by extensive forests, green mountain pastures and rocky mountain slopes.
  • The Ötztal valley has many extremes such as the highest mountain in Tyrol, the largest glacier ski area and Stuibenfall the highest waterfall.

Are you more of a sociable person?

  • Take part in a typical Tyrolean musical performance in a "Biergarten".
  • Visit the famous Almabtrieb, which takes place at the end of the summer. It is fantastic to experience. Cows and sheep are brought back to the valley from the mountain pastures. This centuries-old farming tradition is celebrated in a colourful and grand way with parades full of cow bells and flowers, music and local refreshments.

Many reasons to spend a holiday with your children in Tyrol!

We believe that Tyrol is an ideal destination for families with children in both summer and winter. The ski resorts here are very child-friendly! Tyrol has many ski areas with wide slopes which you can enjoy with the whole family. There are many training meadows for beginners. The slopes also offer opportunities for the advanced skier. As modern apartments, authentic chalets and luxury holiday homes in Tyrol near the slopes are desired and very practical for families with children, you can find them at Villa for You!

We can certainly recommend the holiday regions of the Kitzbüheler Alpen and Zillertal for a relaxing holiday with the whole family. Here you can hike and cycle beautifully through the mountainous landscape. For more thrills you can go summer tobogganing in Tyrol! There are special tracks, which are less steep, that are perfectly suitable for children. Are your children real water enthusiasts? Then a visit to the swimming lake of Going with its extra wide slides and fenced off children's pavilion is the place to be!

Tip: a visit to the silver mine in Schwaz is a real experience. It is an 800-metre-deep, impressive mine, where you can mint your own silver coins.
